SEVENTH WAVE THERAPY
Conscious reconnection & transformation
I created Seventh Wave Therapy after leaving my corporate job and qualifying in psychotherapy and counselling.
Clients find me to be warm, easy to talk to, intuitive and sensitive. I offer a transformational space, like a chrysalis, to foster self-awareness, reconnection and growth.
"Psychotherapy is the only profession in the world where you work from your weakness not your strengths".
Working together, we can find the source of your issues and understand what you are acting out in your life. Our approach helps you to embrace the chance to evolve into the freedom and presence that awaits you.
SEVENTH WAVES IN MY LIFE
WEIGHT GAIN & WEIGHT LOSS
MY JOURNEY AND SELF DISCLOSURE
My personal seven waves to face and overcome. That appears to be how it works – identifying and healing your own wounds to be better able to work with kindred spirits to pay it back.
PCOS, WEIGHT ISSUES & METABOLIC SYNDROME
I struggled with weight most of my life - it went on so easily and was so hard to shed. I tried all the diets but never any meaningful results - there was no issue with willpower. I noticed stress and comfort eating patterns developed as a coping mechanism for something which became part of my routine and self -soothing. Tests revealed PCOS syndrome and metabolic syndrome and then I was left to my own devices through trial and error to find a way to health as sadly some of the medical professionals didn't appear to be open to understand that a calories in and calories out approach is not always effective. I used food and exercise as medicine listening to my body and taking care of my mental and emotional health. I furrowed my own path. It also meant lifestyle changes were essential for my physical, emotional, mental and spiritual health. It's been a long slow but steady recovery and a way of life for me which is a necessity - no short cuts or quick fixes!
CAREER CRISIS & INTROVERSION
In my 20s and early 30s I lived for work and being a good worker meant a great deal to me. I achieved an outwardly successful corporate HR career but there was an emptiness within I couldn't shake. The more successful I was the more I gave of myself, thriving off the positive feedback and pleasing my managers while sapped of energy and motivation for any other aspect of life at the weekend. I came to recognise a natural introversion which compounded my ability to cope without compromising my health and so I decided to change career path. I worked part-time, taking financial and career risks while training in psychotherapy to quench my vocational thirst and work in a field that nourished my soul and intellectual interests.
I've experienced the good, the bad and the ugly. I have also learnt that life is one big complex web of relationships including food, drink and all manner of objects. My own psychotherapeutic journey was pivotal in creating enough internal space to observe how I am in these different relationships which over time has enabled me to transform them.
I chose this work because I have great empathy for anyone who finds themselves lost, in pain, hopeless, alone or stuck. I empathise because there are all familiar places to me and I know how it felt for me.
In addition to my private psychotherapy, couple therapy and counselling practice I work as an Associate Psychotherapist at WeightMatters and EmotionMatters multidisciplinary clinic in Central London. It is the UK’s leading therapy centre for weight, food, eating & health issues.

"We came to Denise when we were at a crisis in our marriage, due to adjustment problems after having a baby. It was very much at breaking point and I’m almost certain that if we had not chosen to get help we would have separated. Denise was kind, warm, understanding, empathetic and challenging. She was fair and listened thoroughly, ensuring that she understood both of our perspectives, and helping us to empathise with each other through looking at our individual histories using a genogram. To gain a better understand of where we were both coming from was so vital to the recovery of the relationship, and has helped us gain perspective on what we represent for each other, what our triggers are, and what we need from the relationship.“

"When I came to you I had no clue how you might begin to be able to help me with my binge eating issues - I honestly felt so low and lost. In my short time with you I feel like we were able to cover so much ground and I saw my self in a new light. You listened to me and I felt like as I was able to get to know myself all over again but from a place of understanding that I never thought would be possible for me. I feel like a new woman and I not only don't have the binge urge, I am growing a new relationship with myself and my food and the way I look at my body. Thank you so much - I really enjoyed working with you and cannot recommend your work highly enough!"
